OBJECTIVE:

To provide regular staff non-exempt employees an additional day off from work for personal reasons.


POLICY:

  1. For the purpose of this policy, personal shall mean any reason for which an eligible employee chooses to use the day. Eligible employees who have completed their probationary period accrue personal leave on the first day of the calendar year or their first day eligible for this benefit, according to the following schedule:

    1 to 25 percent effort 25 percent of their work day
    26 to 50 percent effort 50 percent of their work day
    51 to 75 percent effort 75 percent of their work day
    76 to 100 percent effort 100 percent of their work day

  2. Adjustments for employees with regularly scheduled work days in excess of eight hours per day are made by a quota correction processed by the campus human resources office. Requests and supporting documentation should be forwarded for these adjustments.

  3. Personal leave cannot be carried forward to the next calendar year nor transferred to any other leave. Eligible employees on flex-year appointments must take their personal leave during the months worked. Employees are not eligible to receive payment for unused personal leave upon termination from the university.

  4. The use of personal leave must be approved by the appropriate supervisor. Employees do not have to work the day before or the day after to receive personal leave provided they are on other approved leave.
