"Mental Health and Wellness in Your World" Booth Competition
October 8th, 2007 - University Center Ballroom
Objectives:
• Promoting wellness, mental health awareness and suicide prevention to the campus
community.
• Demonstrating how cultural influences impact mental health and wellness.
• Creating collaboration among students, faculty and staff.
• De-stigmatizing mental health issues.
1. Who can participate?
Any group of UT students, faculty, or staff. Groups can have both students and faculty/staff participants. Groups should be between 4 and 6 individuals.
2. Do participants need to be at booth during judging?
Yes, part of the criteria used in the judging will be knowledge of the subject and degree of interactivity. Therefore, groups should plan to have at least one member (preferably all members) present for the judging.
3. How do I register to enter the contest?
Participants need to register by October 1st, 2007. Download a registration form here and either email it or print and return it to the Counseling Center, 900 Volunteer Blvd, fax: 865-974-7039.
4. Who will be judging the contest?
The team of judges will consist of members from UT students, faculty and staff.
5. How will booths be judged?
Booths will be judged on a combination of factors:
• Creativity/display
• Content/information provided
• Relevance to the theme of mental health, wellness and suicide prevention
• Relevance to the theme of “Mental Health in my World” (cultural component)
• Degree of interactivity
• Level of teamwork involved
6. How many winners will there be?
We will have three winning groups - first, second and third places.
Sample Ideas:
• Wellness in my culture (i.e., wellness in Japan, wellness in residential life, wellness in athletics)
• Mental health issues faced by … (i.e., athletes, college freshmen, medical students)
• Your field as a way of dealing with wellness (i.e., nutrition and the impact of food on mood, dancing as a means to increase wellness)
• Ideas for addressing suicide prevention (i.e., a department’s experience in receiving QPR training)
• Issues of suicide in my culture (i.e., myths about suicide and Indian students, suicide trends in college students)
